Jean Claude Simille opened Jean Paul Hair Salon in 1972 with his brother Paul at 181 Central Avenue in Albany, NY. Four years later, they moved their operation to a bigger space in the Dewitt Clinton Building on State Street, a beautiful Salon overlooking the Capitol.
After the brothers separated, Paul moved to Colorado where he ran two successful Salons in Aspen and Crested Butte. Jean-Claude stayed in Albany and in 1986 expanded the business to Stuyvesant Plaza in a 4,000 square foot space. The move proved to be very successful. Three years later the downtown store was sold and the Spa was opened in a 9,000 square foot space. Encouraged by the success of the Salon and the Spa and Jean Claude’s faith in the future of the region, in 2012, a third location was opened in “Newton Plaza” in Latham, NY.
A little background on the Similles. The two brothers, French Alps born, worked in Paris, Bruxelles, Stockholm for Elizabeth Arden Salons. Offered to move to the States, they did not hesitate. New York, Chicago, Palm Beach. …..was a no brainer. They never turned back.
Today “Jean Paul” is a household name in the Capital Region after 40 years in the Hair Salon and Spa Industry. Jean Claude looks positively towards the future.
